Born and reared in Shreveport, Louisiana to Riley Sr. and Beatrice Young. Attended Mooretown Elementary School and Bethune Junior and Senior High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. Attended college at Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena, Mississippi, Southern University Shreveport and Bossier, and LSUS as an undergrad and Grambling State University for graduate studies. Served in the U.S. Army for three years active duty and eighteen years as an Army Reservist. Married to Barbara Young, have a daughter Terasa Young, and a granddaughter Lady Mabine.
